HAEMATOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP
Our People

Group Leader
A/Prof Freda Passam
Dr Passam lead a comprehensive bench-to-bedside Haematology and Thrombosis program at the Charles Perkins Centre of the University of Sydney.
Research Fellows

Dr Jose Perdomo
Dr Perdomo completed his PhD at the School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences at the University of Sydney. He then moved to the Centre for Vascular Research at the University of New South Wales as a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow focusing on cardiac transcription factors. He then continued his research in haematology and stem cells, thrombosis, antibody engineering and cell biology at the Haematology Research Unit, St George & Sutherland Clinical School, University of New South Wales. This work was supported by grants from NSW Health and the St George and Sutherland Medical Research Foundation. Dr Perdomo is currently investigating the link between white cells, endothelial cells and thrombosis and well as platelet formation by megakaryocytes in both mouse models and human derived cells.

Dr Alex Dupuy
Postdoctoral Research Associate

Mr Miao Qi
Senior Research Officer
PhD Candidates

Dr Yvonne Kong
Yvonne Kong is a PhD candidate in the Haematology Research Group at Charles Perkins Centre. Her doctoral research aims to investigate the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) proteins in platelet formation and clotting risk. She has recently completed joint training in Clinical Haematology and Haematopathology and hopes the data from her studies may one day be applied in the clinical setting.

Jemma Fenwick
Jemma Fenwick is a PhD candidate in the Haematology Research Group in Charles Perkins Centre. Jemma completed her Honours with 1st class in Vascular Immunology under the supervision of Professor Georges Grau. Jemma has a keen interest in vascular immunology and is an avid cinephile.
Honours Students

Sara Shi
Sara has recently completed her Honours degree with 1st Class on the role of Fc gamma receptor IIa in endothelial activation by HIT immune complexes.

Wendy Zhao
Wendy has recently completed her Honours degree with 1st Class Distinction on the role of disulfide isomerases in platelet hyperreactivity in diabetes.

Zarin Subah
Zarin is a current Honours student studying the role of endothelial inflammation in HIT and the investigating novel peptides for the treatment of this life-threatening condition,

Edward Cheng
Edward is a current Honours student studying the role of novel calcium channels in platelet function.
